“Living a Grace-filled Life”
led by the Rev. Dr. Stuart D. Broberg and Rabbi David Novitsky
This is a shared teaching series between Rabbi David Novitsky and Pastor Stu Broberg beginning March 12, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the Dining Room at The Church of the Covenant and concluding on April 9, 2019. This 5 week series seeks to make connections between Jewish traditions and the sacred writings and New Testament Christianity. It is an opportunity for people to become closer together and discuss matters of faith in a setting that is positive, instructive and fun.
March 12, 2019 “The World to Come and the Messiah” Rabbi David, teaching.
Looking at the culmination of all things from various sources including the Talmud; the expectations of a coming Messiah.
March 19, 2019 “The Temple and the Tabernacle” Pastor Stu, teaching.
Temple worship versus tabernacle worship; various developments in history and theology. The Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Plans for the rebuilding of the Temple when the Messiah comes.
March 26, 2019 “The Chosen People of God” Pastor Stu, teaching
The doctrine of election and the chosen-ness of the people of God. The importance of this doctrine in Judaism and also Presbyterianism. God’s promise that He will, “Bless those who bless Israel and curse those who curse Israel.” America’s unique calling to be supportive of Jewish people and the state of Israel.
April 2, 2019 “Jewish Festivals and Significance to Christianity” Pastor Stu Broberg
Overview of the Festivals of Pentecost, Tabernacles and the Day of Atonement and their meaning and significance to Christianity.
April 9, 2019 “Passover Seder and The Last Supper” Rabbi David, teaching
The underlying significance of the Passover Seder and The Last Supper. The way this Jewish Festival underlies also the act of communion.
Each class will begin by welcome and introductions of class participants. Sign ins, prayer and refreshments. The teaching time will conclude at 8:00 p.m. But questions may be written on 3 by 5 cards and then there will be a Q&A time until 8:10 p.m.
